WHO WE ARE

ourstory.png

OUR STORY

Doers was founded in the year 2015 by a group of development professionals and volunteers from Himachal Pradesh state of India, who shared the common concerns about the growing risk of disasters in the Himalayan region. After the catastrophic Nepal Earthquake of April 2015, this group of committed persons resolved to form an organization with an ultimate goal to create a culture of preparedness and to build community disaster resilience in the region.

Since then, the Team Doers continued to learn more and do better in the area of disaster risk management while gradually integrating the issues pertaining to climate change adaptation, public health and humanitarian response. We believe in the systems thinking approach and strive not only to build the capacities, but also to address the underlying vulnerabilities to reduce the risk.

Today, Doers is recognized as a trustworthy and dedicated non-governmental organization working in Himachal Pradesh and other states of India.

There's no such thing as a 'natural' disaster...

The term ‘natural disaster’ is incorrect and misleading.

The #NoNaturalDisasters campaign aims to change the terminology to show that whilst some hazards are natural and unavoidable, the resulting disasters almost always have been made by human actions and decisions.
